The 2019 Honda CR-V is offered in four distinct trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring.

Drivers have two separate engines to choose from. First of all, there’s a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that generates 184 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes paired with a continuously variable transmission. There’s also a turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque.

The base LX trim comes with a 5-inch color display, automatic climate control, USB ports, cruise control, a rearview camera, a four-speaker audio system, LED running lights, a height-adjustable driver seat, 17-inch wheels, and more.

The EX gets you a sunroof, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlayTM, forward collision warning, fog lights, Android AutoTM, automatic emergency braking, satellite radio, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and more.

The EX-L provides a power liftgate, an eight-speaker audio system, HD radio, a power-adjustable passenger seat, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and driver-seat memory settings.

The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan comes in six unique trim levels: S, SE, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL Premium, and SEL Premium R-Line.

When it comes to the engine, all trim levels receive a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. However, all-wheel drive is optional.

The base S offers 17-inch wheels, roof rails, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker sound system, cloth upholstery, automatic headlights, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, a USB port, blind-spot monitoring, a rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, and more.

The SE gains dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, HD radio, satellite radio, simulated-leather upholstery, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen.

The SEL gets you 18-inch wheels, remote start, navigation, front and rear parking sensors, a power liftgate, adaptive cruise control, and more while the SEL Premium adds leather upholstery, LED headlights, a digital gauge cluster, automatic wipers, a surround-view parking camera, automatic high-beam control, and lane departure warning.

The SEL R-Line simply adds larger 19-inch wheels and the Premium SEL R-Line gains 20-inch wheels.

How Can You Choose?

Now that you know a bit about both the 2019 Honda CR-V and the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, how can you choose? For starters, the Tiguan offers a few extra trim levels. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean it wins out over the CR-V. In fact, if you’ve made it this far with your car search, chances are you don’t want to feel bogged down with trim levels. With the Honda CR-V, you have condensed trim levels which still provide a wide array of features with each one. That’s why we recommend the 2019 Honda CR-V.
